Nissan X-TRAIL e-POWER available in ST-L, Ti and Ti-L grades. X-TRAIL Ti-L shown throughout.

Nissan e-POWER delivers a smooth, quiet and responsive driving experience without the need to plug in to recharge.

e-POWER
e-POWER

e-POWER uses a petrol engine to charge a battery and that alone drives an electric motor, powering the wheels. In addition to the petrol engine, e-POWER also uses regenerative braking to help keep the battery topped up.

How does it all work?

e-POWER

Fuelled by petrol, driven by electric

WDiscover a new driving experience without changing your habits. Keep using fuel but enjoy a responsive EV-like driving experience.

e-POWER

Recharges on the go

You don’t need to plug-in an e-POWER vehicle. The petrol engine produces energy that charges the battery when the vehicle needs it. The petrol engine produces energy that can either be directly supplied to the electric motor or to recharge the battery. The electric motor alone drives the vehicle's wheels.

e-POWER

Regenerative braking

Unlocked through Nissan’s e-Pedal Step¹, the regenerative braking system on e-POWER converts kinetic energy from deceleration into electrical energy, and feeds it back to the battery.

e-POWER

A more relaxing way to drive

With the flick of a switch, you can activate e-Pedal Step ᵉᵖ²: a single pedal for accelerating and braking. e-Pedal Step ᵉᵖ² removes the need to jump between two pedals in stop- start traffic, or when driving uphill. Pair this with the quiet engine and you'll feel relaxed behind the wheel.

How does e-4ORCE work?

e-4ORCE all wheel drive technology is available on Nissan X-TRAIL e-POWER ST-L, Ti and Ti-L grades.

e-POWER

Dual-motor power

With two electric motors — one at either end of the car — weight distribution is near perfect, helping to further stabilise the vehicle body. Both motors support regenerative braking, working in sync for a smooth ride.

e-POWER

Four wheels work independently

e-4ORCE all-wheel drive controls torque and braking for each wheel individually, prioritising those with the most grip to assure uphill ascents and and reduces the effects of over- and under-steer ᵉᵖ¹.

e-POWER

Adapts to challenging conditions

UThe e-4ORCE system reacts up to 10,000 times per second, constantly adapting to changing conditions and tricky terrain to help bring you confidence behind the wheel.

All your questions answered

What is the difference between e-POWER and 100% electric or conventional hybrid powertrains?

In the Nissan e-POWER, the wheels are only ever provided power by the electric motor –and this electric motor is provided power by a combination of the VC-Turbo petrol engine and lithium ionbattery.

In an 100% electric vehicle, the motor driving the wheels is only provided power by a large lithium ionbattery, which you have to plug in to charge. With a fully electric vehicle you experience zero emissions while driving.

In a traditional hybrid vehicle, power can be provided to the wheels by the engine, the electric motor or a combination of the both. The battery that provides power to the motor is recharged by the engine.

As power is provided to the wheels in different ways, depending on the powertrain, the way the vehicle drives will vary. e-POWER gives the feeling of driving an electric vehicle, without the need to plug in.

What are the components in e-POWER & how do they work?

The components that make up the e-POWER powertrain consists of:

- An Electric motor that drives the wheels
- A Lithium-Ion battery which powers the electric motor
- An internal combustion engine which generates energy for the battery and electric motor
- A Power Generator which converts mechanical energy to electrical energy
- An Inverter which manages the energy recieved from the engine to charge the Lithium-Ion battery and/or power the electric motor

What happens if the Lithium-Ion battery which powers the electric motor goes flat?

Thanks to some clever technology, your e-POWER vehicle will automatically activate the internal combustion engine when the charge level of the Lithium-Ion battery drops below a certain level.

You can check on the status of the e-POWER powertrain via the energy flow diagram in the vehicle's combimeter which will display when the engine is activated, the battery charging state and more

Does e-POWER come with all wheel drive?

e-POWER is available with e-4ORCE all wheel drive technology for X-TRAIL.

How big is the Lithium-Ion battery in e-POWER compared to a standard 100% electric vehicle?

e-POWER uses a smaller lithium-ion battery compared to a standard Nissan 100% electric vehicle.
